I’m in my 30’s, wear makeup almost every day and live in a country (South Korea) where the air quality isn’t good. I’ve come to realize that my skin needs much more attention than it has in the past. While doing some research online, I stumbled upon Korea’s double cleansing method.
This method is when you use two different types of cleansers to wash your face. First, to cleans your skin of any toxins from the (very polluted) air, especially in Korea, the sun’s harmful rays, makeup residue, and any other unwanted toxins, you use an oil-based cleanser. Then, to prevent breakouts and have a clean slate to work with for the remainder of your nighttime routine, you use a water-based cleanser.
Any time I use a cleansing towelette or cleansing foam, it never wholly removes my makeup, and I’m left having to cleanse a second time. Cleansing twice may not seem like a big deal, but cleansing twice with the same type of product left my skin feeling dry and almost too clean. My skin would become irritated, which made it hard to finish the remaining steps to my night routine.
I wanted something that would entirely remove my makeup while allowing me to cleanse my skin (for a second time) with a clean base without leaving my skin feeling stripped of its natural moisture. That’s when I decided to try Banila Co’s Clean it Zero Cleansing Balm.
The first time I tried this product, I was blown away! It’s the first product I’ve purchased that completely removes all of my makeup without a trace of any remaining residue. With my makeup wholly removed, I’m able to clean my skin effectively (with a water-based cleanser) without breakouts from leftover makeup/toxins.
Banilaco.com describes their cleansing balm as a 3-in-1, meaning it’s designed to melt away any face makeup (1) and eye makeup (2) while cleansing the skin(3). It’s made using Banila Co’s zero balance technology that provides a deep cleanse (while using) without completely stripping your face of its natural moisture. It’s also hypoallergenic! For those who don’t know the benefits of using a hypoallergenic product, (in simple terms) it allows a product to be used on all skin types and doesn’t irritate the skin. This product is also designed to remove waterproof makeup, which can be a real b**** to remove with just a foam cleanser or makeup remover towelette.
This product is also free of:
Parabens – can affect hormone function and increase your risk of breast cancer.
Sulfates – It’s a common ingredient used in cleaning agents. Yikes.
Phthalates – an agent used to make plastic. It can cause damage to the liver, kidneys, lungs, and reproductive system.
Mineral oil – It can cause acne if not refined correctly. But from what I’ve been reading. Cosmetic-grade mineral oil isn’t as harmful to the skin.
Alcohol – weakens the skin and makes it dry. It’s just not something you ever want to put on your face. lol
Artificial coloring – can cause acne and clog pores.
What I love most about this product is that there is no scent. I love a pleasant smell for my facemasks, but I’d prefer non-scented cleansing products. FYI: I purchased the original cleansing balm, so I’m not sure if the other three balms have a smell. What I also love is how my face feels after. It doesn’t feel dry or stripped of all the right oils and moister it needs (as the product guarantees). It’s very lightweight and doesn’t feel heavy. I can’t tell you how many foam cleansers and wipes I’ve tried that never thoroughly remove all of my makeup. If they do, my face is so stripped that it starts to sting when putting on toner or essence.
I love the packaging! The design is clean and the container itself is HUGE. As you can see in the photo below, I can barely hold it in my hands, and my hands are pretty big haha. You get plenty of product that should last for about 3-5 months, depending on how much of the product you use per week.
For those who aren’t familiar with cleansing balms, It feels much different than a balm you would put on your lips. There’s no sticky feeling and its only smooth to the touch. The package comes with a scooper; that way, your hands don’t contaminate the product. Once the balm is in your hands, it will start to melt like butter! Once you apply the product to your face, it immediately starts to rub off the makeup.
How to use:
Apply about a teaspoon or more (depending on how much makeup you have or what you did that day) to your hands to warm up the product. Then apply to your face like you would any cleanser.
After applying: rinse with warm water. You can use cold, but I’ve noticed that the product comes off much easier when you use warm water.
If you would like to try double cleansing, after using the balm, apply a water-based cleanser of your choice. My favorite at the moment is Lagom’s Cellup Micro Foam Cleanser, which will be my next review! If you’re not into double cleansing, then continue on with your usual face cleaning routine.
I hope more of you hop on the double cleansing train with Banila Co’s Clean It Zero and love it as much as I do! To purchase this product (outside Korea) visit www.Banilausa.com, or www.sokoglam.com. If you live in Korea, you can find this product at any Banila Co store near you or online.
Until next time 🙂
