Hydrate Yo’ Self

Back at it again with another mask review! With winter around with corner (Winter Is Coming!), I tested out four different hydration masks from my beauty bae Olive Young!

During the winter months, our skin tends to dry out much faster and more frequent due to the drop in temperature and humidity. I don’t know about you, but I’m not trying to walk around Korea with a cracked (dry) face.

If you’re like me and wear makeup, you’re even more prone to experiencing dry skin after a long day, especially if you live in Korea, where the air is always dry, and their buildings lack solid insulation.

This past week I tried masks that are designed to hydrate and moisturize your face. I purchased these masks based on their purpose, popularity, and brand. There are plenty of hydration mask to choose from, but I wanted to make sure the masks I decided to buy were worthy of my time and money. [side note: not everyone has the same skin reactions so results may vary].

As in my first review, I’ll be using my Facemask Quality Indicator, which I’m loving! It’s been such a huge help when reviewing each mask 🙂 See below:

Alright, lets get started!

(1) Mediheal – D:NA Aquaring Mask
Mediheal has been promoting this mask on Instagram, so I decided to give it a try. This mask was almost sold out at Olive Young, which is always a good sign! See Review Below:

Smell: The smell reminded me of your standard moisturizing lotion. The whole point of this mask is to moisturize your face, so I guess it’s not a bad thing.
Application: It was quick to apply but on the slippery side due to the high amount of lotion essence.
The Feels: Be careful when putting this mask on if you just washed your face. [side note: Like any mask, before using, make sure to wash your face and then apply toner to soothe your skin]. After applying the mask, I realized I forgot to use toner, and my skin was stinging for a minute or two. The essence is quite thick, but it wasn’t uncomfortable to wear.
Post Removal: Once I removed the mask, it took me a minute or two to rub in the remaining essence. I even had to wipe some of it off because it was just too much!
Next Day: I woke up feeling like Beyonce with a hella smooth face! The cream base formula really packs in the moisture.
Expectations: I wasn’t surprised with how well this mask worked. Mediheal is such a good brand!
Price: A single masks cost 3,000원, but if you visit Olive Young, you can get it on sale for 1,500원.  Not sure when the promotion ends so don’t wait too long!

Overall Rating: 4.6/5 – It’s a great mask, but the reason why I gave it a 4.6 is that there was too much essence for my liking.

If you live in Korea, you can find this mask at your local Olive Young store or any beauty store that sells Mediheal. If you live outside Korea, you can purchase this mask online. Unfortunately, it’s only available in bulk. If you live in the US, try visiting the nearest Urban Outfitters, they sell Mediheal! To buy in bulk click the “purchase here” button below!

(2) Briskin – Real Fit Secondskin Mask (Premium Bio-Cellulose)
What intrigued me about this mask was the Premium Bio-Cellulose, which is a top-of-the-line ingredient for hydrating the skin. Also, according to Starskin (and some other research), Bio-Cellulose is “considered by leading beauty experts to be the new gold standard for facial treatments.” See review below:

Smell: The scent of this mask is fantastic! If you like mild floral-scented perfume, you’ll love this. If not, it’s only 20mins and worth it!
Application: It says to put the mask on with the mesh and then take off the mesh layer once the mask is on your face, but the mesh was a pain in my ass, so I recommend taking off the mesh layer and then applying the mask.
The Feels: It’s supposed to feel like second skin, but its PACKED with essence, so I spent a minute or two smoothing out the mask to stop it from slipping down my face. After some adjusting, it felt great!
Post Removal: My face was so hydrated and shiny AF after I took the mask off! It will take you a minute to rub in the remaining essence, but damn, I was impressed. [side note: once I took the mask off, I was tempted to rub the remaining glorious smelling essence on my clothes, but I ain’t cray]
Next Day: I woke up feeling like Beyonce. My face was so smooth and bright!
Expectations: I was quite impressed with this mask, I’ve never heard of this brand before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.
Price: Each mask is 5,000원. It’s on the expensive side for daily masks, which typically run from 1,000-2,500원.
Overall Rating: 4.7/5 – I didn’t give it a perfect score due to the minor difficulties I had getting to mask to stay in the right places, but other than that it was great!

If you live in Korea, you can find this mask at your local Olive Young or any beauty store that sells Briskin. If you live outside Korea, you can purchase this mask online. Click the “purchase here” button below!

(3) MEDIheal – P.D. A.C Defence (Hydro Nude Gel Mask)
One of the reasons why I purchased this was was for it’s “Gel” factor. Gel masks can be quite soothing to the face when it’s irritated or dry. See review below:

Smell: This mask has a strong chemical smell.
Application: The mask is protected by a mesh and plastic layer. Since I had difficulties with the Briskin mask, I removed both layers before placing it on my face, making it much easier to apply.
The Feels: What I liked about this one compared to the Briskin mask was that it’s legit nude! It’s much thinner than the Briskin mask. From afar you can barely tell that it’s on! Since it’s gel, it felt similar to the Dr. Jart silicone rubber mask, which I wasn’t a fan of, however, this gel mask is light and comfortable. The chemical smell isn’t relaxing, but it’s not meant to relax, it’s meant to hydrate!
Post Removal: After taking the mask off, my skin was quite hard and tight. The post removal felt like a tightening than moisturizing.
Next Day: To my surprise, I woke up feeling like Beyonce. Even though my face wasn’t smooth right after I took the mask off (that night), I woke up with soft and bright skin!
Expectations: Even though the post removal wasn’t that pleasant, my face felt so nourished the next day.
Price: A single masks cost 4,000원, but if you visit Olive Young, you can get it on sale for 2,000원.

Overall Rating: 3.9/5 – The mask works, but I didn’t like the smell or the sticky feeling post removal.

If you live in Korea, you can find this mask at your local Olive Young or any beauty store that sells Mediheal. If you live outside Korea, you can purchase this mask online. Click the “purchase here” button below!

(4) me.factory – Water Filling Mask Pack (Aloe Soothing Mask) What grabbed my attention about this mask was when I read “Water Filling Mask Pack.” I was kind of hoping the mask was going to actually fill up with water, but it doesn’t! 🙁 However, the misleading description convinced me to buy it, so it did! lol See review below:

Smell: The smell is very similar to that of shampoo, but slightly on the chemical side.
Application: Another mesh cover – noticing this trend with all the moisturizing face masks. I experienced minor difficulties fitting this mask to my face due to the small eye and mouth openings. Everyone’s face is different, so you may not have this problem.
The Feels: I don’t know if I was just tired, or if the chemicals were seeping into my brain, but this mask was hella relaxing! I didn’t want to take it off! It was the lightest “second skin” mask I’ve tried thus far.
Post Removal: My face was hydrated and moisturized after removing the mask!
Next Day: I woke up feeling like Beyonce. My face was soft, bright and ready for battle (against winter).
Expectations: Me.Factory is known for its pore-removing sheets, so I wasn’t sure this mask would be up to par with the rest, but it was!
Price: I sadly lost the receipt! But I’m 90% positive I paid 3,000원 for it!
Overall Rating: 4.5/5 – I gave it a 4.5 since I had issues with fitting the mask to my face, but it got the job done!

If you live in Korea, you can find this mask at your local Olive Young or any beauty store that sells Me.Factory. If you live outside Korea, unfortunately, this mask isn’t available for online purchase :(. If you live in a major US city, you might have more luck finding this mask in a local beauty store or Asian market.
